Quarter 2 Week 3

 Hello Third Grade Families, 

Content Corner:

• Math- We are continuing to learn multiplication and beginning division. Multiplication and division are related, so knowing multiplication will aid in division confidence. Quiz on Friday. 
• Spalding- We have 30 words this week and test on Friday.
• Reading-Read aloud 20 minutes each night and scholars are filling out the reading log. (Parents just initial) Make sure they are writing in complete sentences.
• Literature- We are finished Little House on the Prairie and are discussing Native American Stories in our CKLA readers. We will be beginning the Lion, the Witch, and the Wardrobe next Monday. Please send the book and use the links to order the book. 
• Grammar- We are discussing paragraph writing and citing text evidence. Friday quiz on writing a paragraph using the R.A.C.E.S. steps. We also are continuing a Home Connect which is given for homework on Wednesday nights. Students will have to discuss what we are learning in Grammar and then the parents will write down what your child shared. This will help to solidify the Grammar concepts and make sure your scholar is listening diligently and taking notes. Your scholar will turn in the next day for a homework grade. This does not need to be an exhaustive writing of all the information, but for you as the parent to understand your child understands the concepts and can clearly communicate them to you. 
• History- We are beginning our learning on Ancient Rome. This will also aid in the Independent Study Project on Ancient Rome.

Updates and Events:

• Field Day is November 7th. 
• Veteran's Day is coming up! 
• Faculty, staff, and students are invited to honor their family members who have served in the military by filling out a short info form and attaching a photo to be displayed in the library on November 11, which is a school day. Please note: photos will not be returned so just send in a copy of your veteran's photo.  Forms were sent home with students on Monday, October 28^th and extra forms can be requested from your teacher or downloaded here. Please return the forms to school by Tuesday, November 5^th. Thank you to all those who have served!

Quarter 2 Week 2

 Hello Third Grade Families, 

Welcome back after Fall Break! 

Content Corner:

• Math- We are continuing to learn multiplication. Make sure for Rocket Math each scholar goes around with their expo at night and then does the 1 min. timed test on the inside. Quiz on Friday. 
• Spalding- We have 20 words this week and test on Friday.
• Reading-Read aloud 20 minutes each night and scholars are filling out the reading log. (Parents just initial) Continue to make sure they are writing in complete sentences with the checklist:
• Subject Noun
• Verb 
• Does it make sense? 
• Capital Letter
• End Mark (punctuation) DUE MONDAY
• Literature- We are finishing to read Little House on the Prairie (LHOP) and discussing sequencing, plot diagrams, and figurative language.
• The Children's Hour by Henery Wadsworth Longfellow is due this Friday, October 25th. 
• Grammar- We are discussing direct objects and citing text evidence. We are beginning a Home Connect which will be given for homework on Wednesday nights. Students will have to discuss what we are learning in Grammar and then the parents will write down what your child shared. This will help to solidify the Grammar concepts and make sure your scholar is listening diligently and taking notes. Your scholar will turn in for a homework grade. 
• Science- We are learning about habitats. There will be a test on Friday.

• Character Dress up day is this Friday! 
• We are working on scholarly typing~ no peck and check. This link should allow your scholar to access typing club using their Clever badge QR code to practice at home if they would like to. The students have their logins through a unique QR code in their agendas.
• Field Day is November 7th. 
• We are going to read Pinocchio after the Winter Break, please bring The Lion, The Witch, and the Wardrobe which we will begin on November 11.

 Hello Third Grade Families,

We are beginning a new quarter and looking forward to having a great discussion at Parent Teacher Conferences. Reminder: There is no school on Friday as Teachers have a Professional Development Day. 

Content Corner:

• Math- We are continuing to learn multiplication. Make sure for Rocket Math each scholar goes around with their expo at night and then does the 1 min. timed test on the inside. Quiz on Thursday. 
• Spalding- We have 20 words this week and test on Thursday.
• Reading- Reading log will be due on THURSDAY-Read aloud 20 minutes each night and scholars are filling out the reading log. (Parents just initial) Continue to make sure they are writing in complete sentences with the checklist:

• Does it make sense? 
• Capital Letter
• End Mark (punctuation) 
• Literature- We are continuing to read Little House on the Prairie (LHOP) and discussing sequencing, plot diagrams, and figurative language.
• The Children's Hour by Henery Wadsworth Longfellow The new poem is given and will be due on October 25th, after Fall Break. 
• Grammar- We are discussing writing paragraphs and the steps in the writing process. We will write a paragraph about what is their favorite character from Little House on the Prairie.  
• History- We are continuing to learn about the Earliest Americans.
