Quarter 1 Week 8

 Hello Third Grade Families,

It is exciting and surprising we are already at the end of the 1st quarter! We look forward to discussing the growth of your scholar at the Parent Teacher conferences October 12-14. Use the emailed links from the school to sign up. 

Content Corner:
  • Math- We are starting a new unit on multiplication with a Test on Thursday. 
  • Spalding- We have 30 words this week and test on Friday
  • Reading- Read aloud 20 minutes each night and scholars are filling out the reading log. (Parents just initial) Continue to make sure they are writing in complete sentences with the checklist:
    • Subject Noun
    • Verb 
    • Does it make sense? 
    • Capital Letter
    • End Mark (punctuation) 
  • Literature- We are continuing to read Little House on the Prairie (LHOP) and discussing sequencing, plot diagrams, and figurative language.
    • The Children's Hour by Henery Wadsworth Longfellow The new poem is given and will be due on October 11th. 
  • Grammar- We are learning about conjunctions, author's purpose, and specific text features. There is a Grammar test on Thursday over adjectives, adverbs, conjunctions, and diagramming. Students can review their purple Grammar notebook to review and study for the test. 
  • Science- We are beginning a new week look at helpful traits of plants and animals. Quiz over notes on Friday. 

Updates and Events:
  • Sign up for Parent Teacher Conferences (October 14-16) 
  • We are working on scholarly typing~no peck and check. This link should allow your scholar to access typing club using their Clever badge QR code to practice at home if they would like to. The students have their logins through a unique QR code in their agendas.

Quarter 1 Week 7 Update

Hello Third Grade Families,

This week is Homecoming week at GHNO! We are having a Griffin coloring contest. Scholars have until Wednesday to color their Griffin or free-draw their own griffin to be submitted for the Homecoming Coloring Contest! 

Content Corner:
  • Math- We are continuing to add and subtract with 3-digit number and will have a Test on Thursday. 
  • Spalding- We have 30 words this week and test on Friday
  • Reading- Read aloud 20 minutes each night and scholars are filling out the reading log. (Parents just initial) We are making sure there are complete sentences with the checklist:

  • Literature- We are continuing to read Little House on the Prairie (LHOP) and discussing author's purpose and point of view. 
  • Grammar- We are continuing to learn about possessive nouns, restating the question, and the questions that adverbs and adjectives answer. 
  • History- This week we are starting a new unit on the Earliest Americans. Scholars are completing a big question which answers an important part of the chapter using vocabulary and evidence from the text.                                 Earliest Americans Quiz Friday

Updates and Events:
  • The Crocodile poem is due this Friday, September 27th, make sure your scholars are practicing daily so they are confident to recite on Friday. 
  • Make sure students are reading QUALITY books for their reading log at home. They should be chapter books at your student's reading level. 
  • We started typing week. This link should allow your scholar to access typing club using their Clever badge QR code to practice at home if they would like to. The students have their logins through a unique QR code in their agendas. Mrs. Cramer also sent home an email and letter last week. 
  • Parent Teacher Conferences (October 14-16) links will be going out on Friday.

Q1W6 Update

 Hello Third Grade Families,

This week is Celebrate Freedom week where we focus on the freedoms in our country through having a special emphasis on the Constitution which embodies the virtue of citizenship. 

Content Corner:
  • Math- We are continuing to add and subtract with 3-digit number and will have a quiz Friday. 
  • Spalding- We have 30 words this week and test on Friday
  • Reading- Read aloud 20 minutes each night and scholars are filling out the reading log. (Parents just initial)
  • Literature- We are continuing to read Little House on the Prairie (LHOP) and discussing summaries, making an inference, and sequencing this week.
  • Grammar- We are continuing to learn about nouns, adjectives, and adverbs. Students are diagraming sentences and learning different types of sentences and types of verbs. Grammar Quiz Thursday
  • Science- This week, we are looking at animals' helpful traits which help them survive such as camouflaging. Helpful Traits Quiz Friday

Updates and Events:
  • We have library this week, so make sure to remind your scholar to bring the book on Library day
  • The Crocodile poem is due Friday, September 27th, it is a new poem that scholars received to begin practicing today.
  • Make sure students are reading QUALITY books for their reading log at home. They should be chapter books at your student's reading level.

Q1W5 Update

 Hello Third Grade Families,

This week we are honoring police officers, firefighters, and other first responders in honor of 9/11. Thank you for parents and family members who serve in this way!

Content Corner:
  • Math- We are starting adding and subtracting with 3 digit number and will have a quiz Friday. Continue to help your scholar practice rounding.
  • Spalding- We have 30 words this week and test on Friday
  • Reading- Read aloud 20 minutes each night and scholars are filling out the reading log. (Parents just initial)
  • Literature- We are continuing to read Little House on the Prairie (LHOP) and learning various figurative language devices such as Alliteration, Simile, personification and Imagery. Students are developing skills on writing summaries for each chapter. Chapter 1-7 Literature Quiz on Friday.
  • Grammar- We are continuing to learn about nouns, adjectives, and adverbs. Students are diagraming sentences and learning different types of sentences.
  • History- It is a history week where we are learning and labeling the world rivers on the map and the compass rose. 

Updates and Events:
  • Clubs have begun. Make sure to check your emails from the sponsor if days change or there are cancellations.
  • By Myself poem is due this Friday, September 13th
  • Make sure students are reading QUALITY books for their reading log at home. They should be chapter books at your student's reading level. 
  • Curriculum night on September 10th 
  • Celebrate Freedom week is September 16-20

Quarter 1 Week 4

Hello Third Grade Families! 

It was a joy to welcome many families to Curriculum Night last week! The Third-Grade teachers are thankful for your parent partnership & excited for a wonderful year ahead! We are developing scholarly habits, so thank you for discussing excellent work and behavior with your children from home as they hear in class! 

Content Corner:
  • Math- We are learning rounding and will have a quiz Friday
  • Spalding- We have 20 words this week due to Labor Day
  • Reading- Read aloud 20 minutes each night and scholars are filling out the reading log. (Parents just initial)
  • Literature- We are continuing to read Little House on the Prairie (LHOP) and learning various figurative language devices such as Alliteration, Simile, and Imagery.
  • Grammar- We are continuing to learn about nouns, adjectives, and adverbs. Students are diagraming sentences. There is a Grammar Test over Proper, plural, and singular nouns this Friday. We have been reviewing in class each day. 
  • Science- It is a science week where we are discussing traits of animals and habitats

Updates and Events:
  • Individual Picture Day is tomorrow! :)
  • Clubs begins today, September 3
  • By Myself poem is due this Friday, September 13th
  • If your child is absent, make sure to complete the missing work from school. You have as many days as absent to complete the work. 
  • Progress reports and deficiencies will be sent out this week which will share how your child is doing in all the classes. 
  • Continue to wash hands, sleep well, & send a water bottle to school so all scholars are healthy & happy!
