Quarter 3 Week 3

 Hello Third Grade Families, 

We are enjoying lots of learning and growing this next semester! They are growing both academically and in the heart.  

Content Corner:
  • Math- We are learning how to tell time with clocks. You can encourage your scholar to tell time at home so they can solidify their learning at home!
  • Spalding- We have 20 words this week and test on Friday. 
  • Reading-Read aloud 20 minutes each night and scholars are filling out the reading log. (Parents just initial) Make sure they are writing in complete sentences.
  • Literature- We are continuing to read Pinocchio this week. Ask your scholar what they are learning as Pinocchio brings out wonderful questions. The new poem, Dream Variations, will be due February 14th. 
  • Grammar- We are learning about different genres of writing. We will have a Home Connect on Wednesday. 
  • Science- We are discussing weather, climate, and natural hazards. Ancient Rome Test is on February 4th. 

Updates and Events:
  • We are taking a STAAR interim this week. Encourage your scholar to go slow, do their best, and don't worry about the rest. 
  • Class Pictures 2/4
  • Field Day to the Witte 2/6 use this link to sign up and pay for the field trip. 
  • Friendship day 2/7- Read the letter sent home in the take home folder to make cards for classmates. Please bring your creative cards/goodies by February 6th if possible. Email your teacher if you have further questions. 
  • Family Game Night 2/7
  • Parent Open House 2/11-14- a sign-up will be sent out soon.
If you had to borrow any clothes from the nurses office this year, make sure to wash them and send them with your scholar to return to the nurse's office.

Quarter 3 Week 2

 Hello Third Grade Families, 

We hope everyone stayed warm and enjoyed the snow day and MLK Day!

Content Corner:
  • Math- Continue to persevere on the math multiplication. They should be starting to understand the multiplication. We will have a cumulative test on Monday. If you have Multiplication and Division flash cards, practice those with your child so they can know the facts from memory and not only rely on the skip counting songs.
  • Spalding- We have 20 words this week and test on Friday. 
  • Reading-Read aloud 20 minutes each night and scholars are filling out the reading log. (Parents just initial) Make sure they are writing in complete sentences.
  • Literature- We are beginning Pinocchio this week. The poem Friends, Romans, Countrymen by William Shakespeare is due Friday, January 24, 2025
  • Grammar- We are learning about prepositions, helping verbs, and linking verbs. We will have a quiz over prepositions on Thursday.
  • History- We are finishing up our unit on Ancient Rome. Scholars have a study guide for the Ancient Rome Test in their folder and Test on Tuesday, February 4th. (Scholars will have a Science Test January 28th with a study guide also in their green folder)

Quarter 3 Week 1

  Hello Third Grade Families, 

Welcome back and well done on the ISP Ancient Rome Project! The scholars have worked so hard and it has been a delight to see them proudly present! 

Content Corner:
  • Math- Students are beginning two digit by one a quiz on Friday. If you have Multiplication and Division flash cards, practice those with your child so they can know the facts from memory and not only rely on the skip counting songs.
  • Spalding- We have 20 words this week and test on Friday. 
  • Reading-Read aloud 20 minutes each night and scholars are filling out the reading log.(Parents just initial) Make sure they are writing in complete sentences.
  • Literature- We are working on reading skills such as finding text evidence and making predictions. The poem Friends, Romans, Countrymen by William Shakespeare due January 24, 2025
  • Grammar- We are learning about prepositions, helping verbs, and linking verbs. We will have a quiz over prepositions next Wednesday.
  • Science- We are continuing to learn about weathering and erosion in geological landforms.

Updates and Events:
  • Picture Retake is Wednesday, January 22. Please reach out to your teacher to let them know if they are having a retake phot. 
  • Field Trip is Thursday, February 6th signups will be sent out TODAY at 4pm. 
  • We will begin Pinocchio next week, please send the book to school if you have not done so already.

Quarter 2 Week 9

 Hello Third Grade Families, 

We are on our last week before Winter Break! Continue to encourage positive, scholarly behavior even in the midst of the fun dress up days for the 5 days of giving. 

Content Corner:
  • Math- Students are practicing word problems this week with a quiz on Friday. If you have Multiplication and Division flash cards, practice those with your child so they can know the facts from memory and not only rely on the skip counting songs.
  • Spalding- We have 30 words this week and test on Friday. 
  • Reading-Read aloud 20 minutes each night and scholars are filling out the reading log.(Parents just initial) Make sure they are writing in complete sentences.
  • Literature- We are having a Seminar and test over The Lion, The Witch, and the Wardrobe on Wednesday. Our new poem is Friends, Romans, Countrymen by William Shakespeare due January 24, 2025. They can say the poem before break if they would like. 
  • Grammar- We are continuing to discuss research and writing paragraph outlines, which will help in our Independent Study Project on Ancient Rome. There will be a manilla folder sent home on Thursday filled with all the contents for the project. 
  • History- We are continuing to discuss Ancient Rome and will have a history test over our vocabulary on Friday. 

Updates and Events:
  • The Lion, Witch, and the Wardrobe Celebration Thursday, December 19th (if you signed up for supplies, please bring those when they arrive to your teacher or on the day of the celebration)
  • Winter Break- December 23-January 3
  • Independent Study Days- January 6-10
  • The Independent Study Project will be due January 13th when we return from Winter Break. All of the components have been taught in class and the Grammar notebook will be a beneficial resource for the writing and research. 
Spirit Week: December 16th–20th
Spirit Week is the week of December 16th! Here are the themes for each day:
  • Monday – Decades Day
    Pick a decade and dress like it!
  • Tuesday – Tropical Tuesday
    Wear a tropical shirt with your uniform bottoms.
  • Wednesday – Western Wednesday
    Dress in jeans, boots, and other Western attire.
  • Thursday – Dress Like a Teacher Day/Narnia Costume
    3rd grade teachers will be in Narnia costume - so you can too! 
  • Friday – GHNO Spirit Shirt Day
    Wear a GHNO spirit top with regular uniform bottoms.
Have a winter break! We are thankful for a great first semester of third grade!

Quarter 2 Week 8

 Hello Third Grade Families, 

We are approaching the final weeks before Winter Break! Make sure to encourage your scholar to demonstrate and practice all of the scholarly habits as we are at the halfway point of 3rd grade!

Content Corner:
  • Math- Students are mastering division facts of 8's with a Quiz on Friday. If you have Multiplication and Division flash cards, practice those with your child so they can know the facts from memory and not only rely on the skip counting songs.
  • Spalding- We have 30 words this week and test on Friday. 
  • Reading-Read aloud 20 minutes each night and scholars are filling out the reading log.(Parents just initial) Make sure they are writing in complete sentences.
  • Literature- We will be finishing The Lion, The Witch, and the Wardrobe this week and annotating figurative language. Our new poem is Friends, Romans, Countrymen by William Shakespeare due January 24, 2025. They can say the poem before break if they would like. 
  • Grammar- We are continuing to discuss research and writing paragraph outlines, which will help in our Independent Study Project on Ancient Rome. 
  • Science- We are looking at the environment and soil this week. We have a science test tomorrow, 12/10, and scholars have their completed study guide to be studying in their green folders.

Quarter 2 Week 7

  Hello Third Grade Families, 

Hope you all had a wonderful Thanksgiving Break! We are thankful for you all! 

Content Corner:
  • Math- We are continuing to learn division using the ABE- answer sentence, bar model, and equation. Quiz on Friday. 
  • Spalding- We have 20 words this week and test on Friday. We have middle of the year MAP testing on Wednesday and Thursday. 
  • Reading-Read aloud 20 minutes each night and scholars are filling out the reading log.(Parents just initial) Make sure they are writing in complete sentences.
  • Literature- We are continuing The Lion, The Witch, and the Wardrobe this week. Our new poem is Friends, Romans, Countrymen by William Shakespeare due January 24, 2025. They can say the poem before break if they would like. 
  • Grammar- We are continuing to discuss research and writing paragraph outlines, which will help in our Independent Study Project on Ancient Rome. 
  • History-We are continuing to learn about Ancient Rome as we discuss Emperor Caesar Augustus this week. We have a Science test 12/10 and scholars have their completed study guide to be studying.

Quarter 2 Week 6

 Hello Third Grade Families, 

We are excited to see you all at the Winter Concert this Friday! You should have received a yellow letter in the take home folder entailing times, attire, and additional details. It will be wonderful to see the scholars looking dapper and dressed up! Please arrive by 6:45 pm at Trinity Baptist Church for the 3-5th grade concert at 7:15!

  • Science- We are learning about habitats, advantages, and how organisms interact in an ecosystem.
