Quarter 4 Week 7

 Hello Third Grade Families,

Happy Fiesta! We do not have school Friday for the Battle of the Flowers! 

Content Corner:
  • Math- We are reviewing multiplication and division. Quiz on Thursday.
  • Spalding- We have 20 words this week.
  • Reading-Read aloud 20 minutes each night and scholars are filling out the reading log. 
  • Literature- We are continuing on the journey in our book, Trumpet of the Swan. We are filling out the WONDER QUESTIONS each night. The poem, Godfrey Gordon Gustavus Gore, will be recited this Wednesday, April 30. 
  • Grammar- We are learning different types of poetry. There will be a Poetry Home-Connect on Wednesday.
  • Science- We are learning about sound waves and how sound travels. Science Test May 13th, science study guide will be sent home this week.
Updates and Events:
  • Trumpet of the Swan Celebration Thursday, May 1
  • No school May 2- Battle of the Flowers
  • Spring Music Concert May 9th
  • MAP Testing- May 12th and 13th

Quarter 4 Week 6

Hello Third Grade Families,

We have another full week of learning and a full Friday this week!

Content Corner:
  • Math- We are beginning a unit on shapes and identifying the various figures. Quiz on Friday.
  • Spalding- We have 20 words this week due to STAAR on Tuesday. 
  • Reading-Read aloud 20 minutes each night and scholars are filling out the reading log. 
  • Literature- We are continuing on the journey in our book, Trumpet of the Swan, this week. We are also filling out the WONDER QUESTIONS, where each night your scholar gets to explore a question about life like the main character, Sam Beaver, does in the story. The new poem, Godfrey Gordon Gustavus Gore, will be recited this Wednesday, April 30. 
  • Grammar- We are writing another narrative story, and the scholars are having to use sensory details and quality adjectives as they write. Editing Home-connect for revising their story will be sent home on Wednesday.
  • History-We are continuing to learn about explorers and will have our test on Thursday, April 24th. Then, we will begin learning about the 13 colonies. 
Updates and Events:
  • No Homework on Monday due to STAAR
  • Math STAAR Tuesday, April 22
  • Trumpet of the Swan Celebration May 1 (another email sent today) Signups are live tomorrow at 5 pm
  • No school May 2- Battle of the Flowers
  • Spring Music Concert May 9th

Quarter 4 Week 5

 Hello Third Grade Families,

We are staying strong and focused! 

Content Corner:
  • Math- We are looking at data by reading and analyzing different types of graphs. 
  • Spalding- We have 20 words this week and Test on Thursday.
  • Reading-Read aloud 20 minutes each night and scholars are filling out the reading log. 
  • Literature- We are continuing on the journey in our book, Trumpet of the Swan, this week. We are also filling out the WONDER QUESTIONS, where each night your scholar gets to explore a question about life like the main character, Sam Beaver, does in the story. The new poem, Godfrey Gordon Gustavus Gore, will be recited this Wednesday, April 31. 
  • Grammar- We are writing a narrative story about the "The first time I..." and the scholars are having to use sensory details and quality adjectives as they write. 
  • Science-We are learning about the adventures of light and sound. We are discovering how light refracts, reflects, and absorbs.

Quarter 4 Week 4

 Hello Third Grade Families,

We are working on the virtue of humility and letting others go first! We have the Reading STAAR tomorrow. Make sure your scholar goes early to bed and has a filling healthy breakfast in the morning!

Content Corner:
  • Math- We are beginning to learn about measurement and weight. We are discovering mass and the unit of kilograms through making comparisons of the weights. Quiz on Friday
  • Spalding- We have 20 words this week and test on Friday. 
  • Reading-Read aloud 20 minutes each night and scholars are filling out the reading log. 
  • Literature- We are continuing on the journey in our book, Trumpet of the Swan, this week. We are also filling out the WONDER QUESTIONS, where each night your scholar gets to explore a question about life like the main character, Sam Beaver, does in the story. The poem, The Adventures of Isabel, will be recited this Friday, April 11th. 
  • Grammar- We are focusing on parts of sentences, fragments, and run-on sentences this week and will have a quiz on Thursday.
  • History-We are continuing to learn about explorers of North America.

Quarter 4 Week 3

Hello Third Grade Families, 


Content Corner:
  • Math- We are continuing fractions this week. Scholars will be taking a fraction test on Thursday
  • Spalding- We have 30 words this week and test on Friday. 
  • Reading-Read aloud 20 minutes each night and scholars are filling out the reading log. Make sure students are reading quality books- no dog man, etc. 
  • Literature- We are starting our new book, Trumpet of the Swan, this week. The poem, The Adventures of Isabel, will be recited on Friday, April 11th. 
  • Grammar- We are focusing on parts of sentences, fragments, and run-on sentences this week. 
  • Science-We are continuing to learn friction and have our Science Test on magnetism Wednesday, April 2.

Quarter 4 Week 2

   Hello Third Grade Families, 

We hope you all had a wonderful weekend and celebrating 10 years of GHNO if you were at the gala! Thankful for 10 years of Northern Oaks.

Content Corner:
  • Math- We are learning about equivalent fractions and will have a quiz on Friday.
  • Spalding- We have 30 words this week and test on Friday. 
  • Reading-Read aloud 20 minutes each night and scholars are filling out the reading log. Make sure students are reading quality books- no dog man, etc. 
  • Literature- We finished reading The Jungle Book. We have a seminar on Wednesday and a test on Thursday. The study guide is in their folders. The poem, Jimmy Jet and His TV Set, will be recited on Friday, March 28th. 
  • Grammar- We are developing our editing skills, diagraming direct objects, and writing a paragraph on the virtues in "Rikki Tikki Tavi" from the Jungle Book. We will have a home connect on Wednesday to edit your scholar's  writing. 
  • History-We are continuing to learn about Canada and her history. Science Test on magnetism Wednesday, April 2. 
Updates and Events:
  • Art Show this Friday, March 28th 5-7pm
    • Please come for the great reveal of the beautiful artwork all over the school wearing presentable casual attire. 
  • Begin bringing the Trumpet of the Swan book as we begin that text soon.

Quarter 4 Week 1

  Hello Third Grade Families, 

We are entering into the last quarter of third grade! 

Content Corner:
  • Math- We are continuing to learn fractions and numbers greater than a whole. Quiz on Friday.
  • Spalding- We have 30 words this week and test on Friday. 
  • Reading-Read aloud 20 minutes each night and scholars are filling out the reading log. (Parents just initial) Make sure they are writing in complete sentences. Also, make sure students are reading books at their reading level. 
  • Literature- We are continuing to read, The Jungle Book. Use the links on the side to find the correct version. The new poem, Jimmy Jet and His TV Set, will be recited on Friday, March 28th. 
  • Grammar- We are developing our editing skills, diagraming direct objects, and writing a paragraph on the virtues in "Rikki Tikki Tavi" from the Jungle Book. We will have a home connect on Wednesday to edit your scholar's  writing. 
  • Science- We are learning about magnetism and continuing to look at forces at work in our world.
